Melasma

Melasma is characterized by diffuse pigment on the face and can be difficult to treat. The condition is caused by hormonal changes in the body such as pregnancy (it is often called the “mask of pregnancy” because of the mask-like appearance it creates), birth control pills, and menopause. This diffuse pigment is worsened with exposure to the sun and heat. Melasma can be treated effectively though with regular skin care and in-office treatments such as the VI Peel.
