Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) has become synonymous with the removal of brown spots and sun damage from the skin. IPL refers to any light-based system that uses filtered light to a treat a condition on the skin. Most IPL systems are designed to treat the most common signs of sun-damage: brown spots, redness, and texture that is dry and rough. These treatments are also known as “Photofacials.”
IPL is a non-ablative treatment which generally means that the treatments have little or no downtime. IPL treatments are done as a series of 4-6 sessions. Treatments are affordable, comfortable, and patients can resume most activities immediately afterwards. The skin can feel warm and tingly post treatment and will be slightly red. Many brown spots will darken immediately after the treatment and will gradually disappear over 7-10 days. These reactions are most intense with the first and second treatment of a series.
